The World’s Busiest International Airport

According to CAPA Centre for Aviation, Dubai International Airport has regained its title as the world’s busiest international airport based on the number of passengers and seats it has available.

The airport handled more than 4 million passengers in July 2022. This represents a 28% increase from the previous month. The report noted that Dubai International Airport handled more passengers than Heathrow Airport. It had around 3.59 million passengers.

According to the report, about 38% of the airport’s seats are allocated for flights that are over six hours. In contrast, about 54% of Emirates’ seats are allocated for long-haul flights.

Despite the various challenges that the aviation industry is facing, the CAPA praised Dubai for its efforts to maintain its position as a global destination.

The report praised the Dubai’s authorities for their proactive approach in addressing the pandemic. They also ensured that the businesses in the country were not affected by the restrictions.

The report noted that the airport will have to adapt to the changes brought about by the decline of the A380 aircraft. It said that smaller long-haul aircraft types will be used as replacements for the aircraft.

The increase in the number of frequencies on certain routes will also have an impact on the airport’s infrastructure.

The Dubai International Airport was able to successfully resume its operations following the Covid-19 restrictions in 2020. It served 25.9 million passengers in 2020, and 29.1 million in 2021.
